Earlier this month Google held a big hardware launch event for a number of products with the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL headlining. Those who were first in line to place their pre-order were given a shipping date of October 17th and most of this first batch was delivered by the 19th. So now that people are able to get their hands on the two new flagship smartphones from Google, the company has uploaded the initial factory images for both of these devices.
Reviews for the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL have been a mixed bag due to different reasons. Some feel the design of the Pixel 2 is bland and shows its age for a smartphone that has been released in 2017. The Pixel 2 XL has received more attention due to a number of issues about the display. Not only are people upset about a grainy appearance with poor viewing angles, but there's also been reports of the panels already showing signs of burn-in.
With every new device that Google sells, they release factory images for it on their website. These factory images are used to manually flash the Android OS to the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL and they are accompanied with OTA images for those who want to sideload the new update. Both of Google's new Pixel smartphones have had their factory images uploaded today and there are different downloads for each new Pixel phone.
I purchased my Pixel 2 XL from the Play Store so I am on the OPD1.170816.010 version of the firmware, if you're on Telstra then you're on version OPD1.170816.011, while Rogers and Fido owners are on version OPD1.170816.012 and Verizon customers are on version OPD3.170816.012. Google has labeled all of these so that it is easy for you to know which version you should download. The only thing is that Google has all four of these builds labeled with the October security update, but the builds correspond to September's patches.
